Shrine Church of Saint Jude

I wish to thank all the parents that have already registered your children for the upcoming year.
We will be moving our opening to the first weekend in October.
I have scheduled an important parent meeting to discuss our program.  .
Families only need to attend one. There will be one on Wednesday evening, September 15 at 6:30 PM or Saturday afternoon, September 18  at 4:00 PM.  Both meetings will take place in the Church so we can keep social distance.  These meetings are for all levels 1-8.  Masks are required.
Please try to attend one.
Thank you,
Ms. Teifer

Dear Families,

Many things have changed in the past two years and even now we can never know what the future has in store for us.  As of this printing, we plan on having in-person Religious Education classes beginning in September. Religious Education is all about supporting parents who are the primary catechists to their children. Faith is not something we can learn in a class that meets a few hours a week.  Faith is something we live and grow into with our families.  Nothing we do in Religious Education class would make any sense to your children if the faith was not a part of your home life. Practicing the faith at home includes praying together, reading the Bible together, talking about faith, and, most importantly, attending Sunday Mass with the family. With great thought, prayer and contemplation the Shrine Church of St. Jude is restructuring the Religious Education program.

Certain mandates are still required:

  • Catholic parents who wish to have their children receive the sacraments are required to send their children to formal religious education yearly starting with the first grade.

  • Two complete years are required before the reception of the sacrament of First Holy Communion.

  • Families participating in the program should be registered in the Shrine Church of St. Jude parish.

  • Added  is a directive by the Diocese of Brooklyn to increase classes.

What will the Shrine Church of St. Jude Religious Education Program look like?

Religious Education Grades  1 - 7

To comply with the directives of the Diocese and to continue to keep the expected days off, the Sunday Religious Education Program will now meet for two hours on Sunday between the hours of 10:00 am - 12 noon.  The Religious Education teachers will not be responsible for taking the children to Mass.  This responsibility will be on the parents.  The time of our program has changed to allow the parents  to take their children to either the 8:30 AM Mass or the 12:30 PM Mass.   For parents who elect to attend the 8:30 Mass - there will be an early drop-off beginning at 9:30 AM.

Family Participation - Three times a year we ask our families to join in and celebrate as an entire community.  These celebrations are during scheduled class times.  (Opening Day - September 19, Christmas Celebration - December 19, & Pentecost Sunday, Closing Day - June 5)

Sunday Religious Education fee (grades 1 -7) is $100 for the first child & 150 for two or more.

First Holy Communion/Penance - The Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated in March and the sacrament of First Holy Communion will be celebrated in May.  Prior to receiving the sacraments, children with their parents are required to attend four preparation meetings during the scheduled class times.  (Dates, times and additional information will be provided at a later date.)

Confirmation  - Students must be in at least 8th Grade and have had at least 2 years of formal Religious Education (Catholic school or Religious Ed) prior the current year to be eligible to receive this sacrament.

  • Confirmation Class for 2021/2022 school year will begin September 18th.

  • Confirmation classes will meet on TWO Saturday afternoons a month,  4:00 pm - 6:30 pm.  This time includes the 5:30 Mass which is mandatory.

  • Students will be required to complete assigned lessons prior to class.

  • Confirmation fee is $150. $50 is due in September.

Thank you,

Ms. Teifer
