St. Jude Shrine RC Church Memorial Candle

In the history of the Catholic Church, lighted candles have always played an important part in the Mass and other liturgies since the days of the early Christians. The tradition may have begun with the early custom of ever-burning lights in the tombs of the martyrs in the Catacombs. These lights were left burning as a sign of unity with the Christians who remained on earth. These lights kept a silent vigil and therefore they became known as Vigil Lights.

Our Shrine Church of Saint Jude has a special separate Shrine Chapel to our patron saint. This prayer area features a six-foot multi-colored marble statue of St. Jude. There are a series of sixteen vertical stained-glass windows placed to the right and left of the statue. These stained-glass windows, while rich in color, are designed to help bring focus and attention to the Shrine statue and temper the light as well, creating a devotional setting in the chapel conducive to prayer and meditation.

Our Chapel and the Vigil Lights in the Shrine are a special testimony to, and a symbol of the prayers of the many people united in their devotion and faith to the Apostle, St. Jude.

You may include your own special intentions among those, which these Special Vigil Lights signify. These continuously burning lights symbolize your devotion to Saint Jude and will represent your faith and perseverance in prayer.

A Special Memorial Candle Band will have your name or the name of a loved one on it and will burn continuously for one full year for a donation of $200.00. All offerings received will be used to help support the Shrine Church of Saint Jude. Request forms can be obtained at the Rectory Office. What a wonderful way to honor a loved one.
